Hume City has continued its patchy form unable to break Heidleberg United at Valley Park with both teams failing to trouble the scoreboard.
After an arm wrestle in the first half between the midfields, Hume City lost young striker Turhan Sumbul to a red card after a clumsy foul early in the second stanza leaving Hume City on the back foot for the remainder of the match.
With desperate efforts to keep a clean sheet, the return of Steven Pace and Phil Riccobene proved to be crucial. Hume City seemed to have a lot more poise in defence, but lacked penetration through the midfield, resulting in a lack of supply of quality balls to the forwards.
Zoran Petrevski started the match with a surprise ball to his feet at the 1st minute which he sent over the cross bar much to the amazement of everyone at the game.
Opazo and Cardozo teamed well at the 10th minute only to have the attacked prevented by a desperate Heidelberg United defence.
Cardozo came close at the 22nd minute sending the ball just wide of goals.
Steven Pace came to the rescue at the 30th minute when he made a last ditched effort to prevent a clear shot on goal by Heidelberg United. With the match in the balance, Turhan Sumbul took on the Heidelberg defence and whipped a brilliant ball to the head of Zoran Petrevski who was unable to capatalise on the chance at the 39th minute.
The second half began with Hume City pushing for the 3 points. Richard Carodzo once again came close with some magical footwork only for the defence intercepting a certain goal opportunity.
Turhan Sumbul created headaches for the coaching staff at the 62nd minute after receiving a red card for careless play on his opponent.
The last 25 minutes saw Heidelberg push for an unexpected victory, but was unable to beat the defensive pressure applied by Hume City.
