It was always going to be an emotional day for star recruit Zoran Petrevski after an injury plagued 2008 with Melbourne Knights, But the talented striker made his first encounter against his former club a memorable one landing both of the Hume City Goals, and putting a claim on the goal of the year with the game clincher.
In ordinary conditions Hume City took full control of the match from the outset forming attacks, penetrating through the midfield. Zoran Petrevski took full advantage of his first chance which came from defensive error in the 10th minute, rolling the ball into the back of the net. Knights dearly shaken, were under constant pressure until the 20th minute when Greg Draper put the ball past keeper Louie Acevski.
The unattractive football on a bumpy pitch got a little heated with frustrated players receiving yellow cards and Peter Franjic red carded for a rude and careless tackle on Issy Erdogan at the 42 minute mark of the first half.
A man down for the rest of the match Knights were under constant siege with Ross Thompson, Caner Ucarli and Jason Davidson all missing goals.
Knights almost scored against the play but the game clincher came through a pin point cross from Toni Sterjovski to Zoran Petrevski who scored an outstanding left foot volley at the 76th minute mark sending the home crowd wild.
