After an indifferent pre season Hume City has managed to beat a strong Green Gully outfit 2-1 away from home.

The match started with Green Gully using the wind to its advantage bombarding the Hume City goals, only to be denied by newly appointed captain Louie Acevski three times in the space of two minutes. With Green Gully clearly on top Hume City was unable to form an attack against a determined Gully and a strong wind. With Hockless and Fleming controlling the game for Green Gully, Hume struggled to play its natural attacking brand of football, until the 25th minute mark when Zoran Petrevski missed a golden opportunity in front of goal.
Louie Acevski saved the day again in the 27th minute with an outstanding save keeping his team in the contest. Hume City picking up the pace and settling into its new season was awarded a penalty after Petrevski was pushed in the back at the 36th minute, after a great cross from recruit Richard Cardozo. City supporters expecting to go up 1-0 were in shock when Petrevski picked the keeper not able to capatilise on the golden chance.
Green Gully came close once again after it hit the cross bar at the 41 minute mark. At the 42nd minute Louie Acevski was kicked by Gully defender on the ground. With the game heating up City missed another opportunity as Goran Talevski failed to score an open goal trying to to tap the ball into the back of the net. The referee blew the whistle and both teams went into the half time break woeing the chances they had missed.
Hume City was the team that came out of the break keen to capatilise on the wind advantage. Zoran Petrevski working tirelessy to create opportunity setting up Cardozo who missed at the 46th minute mark. Tansel Baser working himself into some form, began to create serious headaches for Green Gully along with Cardozo, Petrevski and Vlahos. The hard work was rewarded with a goal by experienced Baser who scored from outside the box with sensational strike after the Gully defenders tried clearing the ball out of the defence. Taking a 1-0 lead at the 51st minute, Gully answered with brilliant goal by Hockless at the 53rd minute, shocking everybody at the ground. Hume City made a change at the 55th minute taking off Mehmet Karakilic for Ross Thompson.
At the 60th minute Cardozo was held in the box, but was not awarded by the referee. Ross Thompson was sent off at the 66th minute for a crude tackle on the Gully midfielder. Down to 10 men in the last 25 minutes, Hume City lifted the tempo and scored at the 73rd minute after Vlahos single handedly set up debutant Cardozo for his first goal for Hume City FC of the 2010 season. Hume City was able to withstand Green Gully attacks desperatley fighting to equalise, eventually running out of time and Hume leaving Green Gully Reserve with the 3 points. Tansel Baser happy with the win said "It was very important to come away from the game with a win. Its always good to start the season in this manner. We were shaky to begin with, but once the nerves were dealt with I think we played a good brand of football.
